ENVEC is organised in accordance with the principles of the nationally recognised "Greener Events" guide for reducing the environmental impacts of conferences and seminars. To ensure that ENVEC is climate neutral, the organisers work closely with the venue management team to keep energy waste and CO2 emissions to a minimum and then offset the unavoidable CO2 emissions arising from the event (delegate travel & other energy use) by funding the planting of native broad-leaved trees in "ENVEC WOOD" in the South West (via www.co2balance.com).

About ENVEC & ENVEC Archive

Held in October each year, ENVEC has been the main environmental business networking event in the South West since 1993. Since 2000 ENVEC has strengthened its focus on climate change issues so that it is now recognised as the main climate change conference in the South West region each year. It is for
  • decision makers in the private and public sectors
  • managers responsible for energy and/or environmental issues
  • other business professionals
and provides them with the strategic information they need to respond to the challenges of climate change from reducing carbon emissions to adapting to the impacts of a changing climate. ENVEC is also a unique opportunity to network on climate change issues with others from across the region.

ENVEC supports the event programmes for the South West's Energy & Environmental Management Groups where more technical/management information and local networking opportunities are provided.

The first ENVEC, ENVEC '93, was held at the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay on 8th October 1993. After five highly successful ENVECs in Torquay, ENVEC took a break in 1998 and then re-commenced in 1999 at the Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare. ENVEC typically attracts 250+ delegates from throughout the South West region and is widely recognised as a major climate change conference in the UK conference calendar.

From ENVEC 2001, ENVEC has been run as a climate neutral event - for ENVEC 2001 - 2005 the organisers have invested (via www.climatecare.org) in projects that reduce carbon dioxide emissions to offset the emissions arising from energy used at the event itself and by delegates travelling to and from the venue. In 2005 ENVEC made a financial contribution towards the installation of solar PV panels on the roof of the Winter Gardens Pavilion in Weston-super-Mare as part of ENVEC's environmental legacy for the venue. See also "ENVEC wood" below concerning carbon offsets from 2006.

Since ENVEC 2005, ENVEC has been organised in accordance with the principles of the nationally recognised "Greener Events" guide for reducing the environmental impacts of conferences and seminars.

The organisers recognise that the way people obtain and share important information has changed greatly with the advent and increased use of the internet. For this reason the format of ENVEC is kept under continuous review so that this event can evolve to meet the needs of delegates.

These comments from delegates about ENVEC are typical of comments received:

ENVEC WOOD
As part of the programme for reducing the environmental impacts of the ENVEC conference itself, a new wood in the South West, ENVEC WOOD, has been planted during 2007 in partnership with Taunton based www.co2balance.com. This is part of ENVEC's legacy to the region and involves the planting of native broad-leaved trees in a special new ENVEC designated woodland at Morchard Bishop, Devon.
