Species Seahorse - Hippocampus ramulosus, fish
Habitat SEAGRASS BEDS
Background and status There are approximately 35 different species of seahorse in the world. The seahorse H.ramulosus is rare but occurs throughout the English Channel and around the South West coast.
Main Threats Water quality (pollution and eutrophication) and habitat loss
Conservation and targets A major project is to be carried out to find out whether the seahorse is resident or a summer vistior to our waters. This work will be carried out by staff from the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, Devon.
