Species Dorset heath - Erica ciliaris, plant
Habitat LOWLAND HEATHLAND
Background and status An uncommon, many-branched, low shrub with hairy stems, leaves in whorls of three, and distinct deep pink flowers. It is found locally on wet acid heaths in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Flowers June-September. It has a very limited distribution.
Main Threats

Development of heathland sites.

Inappropriate management. Neglect can lead to the plant being shaded out by invading trees and shrubs.

Conservation and targets

Conservation of this species will be effected by proper management and re-creation of lowland heathland.
