Parish maps are an excellent way in which local people can be involved in looking at their own community area and highlighting the features that are special and of value to them. They can also discover points of local historical interest when researching information for inclusion in the project.

This example was produced by Aldbourne Women’s Institute as part of a national project organised in 1991 for promoting the production of parish maps. Many members of the community were involved in its production including local farmers who were asked to provide the original names of the different fields.
